+While I would be happy to share music with everyone, my studio is more geared toward children than adults.

+<i><b>Do you travel teach? Will you drive to my house?</b></i><br>
+I do not travel to my students for one particular reason. I have an enormous amount of music, games, and materials available in my studio. When I see that a particular way of introducing a subject isn't working, I can easily pull out something else to better reach the student. Until I start driving an RV and can bring
+ everything with me I am not set up to teach away from my studio.

+<i><b>Do you teach siblings?</b></i><br>
+Of course! I even have an extra digital piano in my front room for one child to practice on while another child is in their lesson.

+Practice is incredibly important. I would like every student to practice at least 5 days a week, 15-30 minutes for the younger children and 30 minutes to one hour for older, more advanced students. Do they need a break from school in the afternoons? Have them practice, it will help stimulate another part of their brain.

+Short answer - no. Longer answer - yes. Let me explain....
+Your child will need to have an instrument to practice on as soon as possible. I am absolutely fine if your child has a keyboard (full sized keys, not a tiny keyboard) to start with. Depending on their progress, however, they will eventually need a fully weighted 88 key instrument with pedals. When that time comes I am happy to help find what best fits your family, whether that is a digital piano or the traditional accoustic piano.

+## Attendance
+
+Lesson attendance is very important. At the beginning of every school year I
+will send out a Google form asking for student availability. I understand
+sports schedules change from season to season, and will communicate with the
+parents to find a time that works for each student. Be sure to keep your
+child's weekly piano lesson times clear of other appointments. If you forget about your child's lesson that lesson time will not be made up and the fee for that lesson will be forfeited.
+
+In the summer I will work with each family to find times that work well for all
+parties. Family vacations and summer opportunities are important and I try to
+be more flexible when school is not in session.
+
+Parents are always welcome to stay, and especially with younger students I do
+encourage them to do so until their child is comfortable. If you have other
+children who will be with you, they are welcome to do homework at the dining
+room table or play with some of the toys I keep in a bin in the front room.
+
+Please be timely! That being said, do not bring your student more than 5
+minutes early (unless prearranged) and be prompt at the end of the lesson
+(again, unless prearranged). I do like to tell each parent how their child is
+progressing, and if you are late I cannot take time from the next student?s
+lesson.
+
+## Practice
+
+Practice is incredibly important. I would like every

+I will always write down what is to be
+practiced. You will need to provide a notebook for assignments, preferably
+something fun that they will like. Feel free to reuse any notebooks you have
+around the house, preferably 5"x7" or larger.

+Practicing the evening of or the day after a lesson is very important. Your
+child will get the maximum benefit from their lesson if they take the time to
+reproduce at home what they learned in the lesson while it is still fresh in their minds.
+
+All books and notebooks need to be brought to every piano lesson unless
+previously discussed!
+
+## Piano Studio Class
+
+Several times a year I host a piano studio class for students in my home. It is
+not required, however, I do encourage all students to attend. Each student will
+play for the others, teaching them not only confidence and performance skills
+but also proper audience manners. The children seem to enjoy this and often end
+up playing multiple times at each gathering. The dates for this school year
+will be:
+
+* September 29 @3pm
+* December 1 @3pm
+* February 2 @3pm
+* April 6 @3pm
+* June 1 @3pm (tentative)
+
+## Scheduling Conflict
+
+If you have a lesson time conflict, let me know with at least  24 hours notice.
+Failure to notify me of a conflict will result in a forfeiture of the lesson
+fee. I will do my best to find a makeup time if something unavoidable arises
+but there are very, very few opportunities in the weekly schedule this year.
+
+## The Exceptions
+
+Sick kids! I go by typical school rules: if they can't go to school, they can't
+come to lessons. Children must be fever/vomit free for 24 hours in order to
+return to lessons.<i>Do not bring a sick child to piano lessons!</i> Let me know as soon as you can and we can work on
+rescheduling the lesson. 
+
+Emergencies happen. As with sick kids, if there is an emergency, please let me
+know as soon as you can and we will either work around it or work on
+rescheduling that week.
+
+Snow days in Loudoun are a bit of a gray area. I usually text with parents the
+day of the lesson if weather is dangerous. Since we live on a hill with a very
+steep driveway,  I tend to be very cautious.

+I charge $90 a month per student. This entitles each student to a set number of
+lessons based on the starting month and ending August 31, 2019. I will keep
+track of the number of lessons each student has received and will provide the
+number via email each month. Some months may have 5 lessons, other months may
+have 2 lessons. The cost each month will always be $90 with the possible
+exception of the summer months (see Summer Lessons below).

+## Summer Lessons
+
+Summer lessons are the exception to the rule. If your child has reached 36
+lessons and you would like to purchase more, I am happy to discuss adding
+lessons in the schedule for a $27 charge per lesson. This will be billed in
+addition to the $90 monthly lesson fee. The monthly plan must continue to be
+paid through the end of August.
+

+## Materials Fees
+
+Parents are also responsible for reimbursing any new book/music fees. New book
+purchases will be discussed beforehand. I receive a slight discount at the
+music store so I will purchase the books and pass the discount price on to you.
+New books are needed approximately every 4-6 months in the beginning, and cost
+about $20 each time. With the more advanced students the frequency of books
+purchases decreases to about once a year but is slightly more expensive at $25
+- $30. If your child has an older sibling who has already begun piano lessons I
+am happy to reuse their books (if they are at the appropriate age level) with
+the exception of the Theory book which must be purchased new.
+
+<br>
+## Payment
+
+Payment is due by the 7th of every month. The last week of each month I will
+send a digital bill via email with the lesson dates for the upcoming month as
+well as any book charges. For example, the September bill will be sent to each
+parent the last week of August. Payment will then be due by September 7th. I
+accept cash or checks. Most banks offer a bill pay service that will allow you
+to send a check on the same date every month which is very convenient for all
+parties. I highly recommend using the auto check  service.
+

+## Discontinuing Lessons
+
+If your child stops taking piano lessons during the term, the number of lessons
+taken will be totaled and multiplied by $27 per lesson, then compared against
+the amount paid. A refund will be issued or further payment will be needed.
+
+Example: Suzie stops taking lesson after 4 months having taken 16 lessons.
+
+* 16 lessons x $27 per lesson = $432
+* 4 months x $90 per month = $360
+* The parent still owes $72.
+
+Example: Johnny stops taking lessons after 7 months having taken 22 lessons.
+
+* 22 lessons x $27 per lesson = $594
+* 7 months x $90 per month =$630
+* The parent receives a $36 refund.

+pursued every musical opportunity I could find - church choirs, high school

+I teach out of my home and welcome children ages 5 and up. The best moment of my teaching day is when everything clicks for a student and they realize that yes, they can do this, and yes, they are wonderful! Not every child is the same, we all learn differently, and I go to great effort to make sure I present information in the way that is best for the student. We may sit at the piano for the entire lesson, we may move around the room, and I have been known to use the stairs to explain the difference between high and low. I incorporate games, digital resources, and recordings to make music accessible to everyone who walks in my studio door.
