<br>Welcome to hmjStudios! My name is Heather Johnston and I am a piano teacher in
Potomac Falls, VA. I'm a mom of one fantastic college student, married my high school sweetheart, love animals, 
books, crochet, history....and, oh yes, MUSIC!
<br><br>
Music has been my lifelong passion. As a child and teen I
pursued every musical opportunity I could find - church choirs, high school
choirs, elite handbell groups, solo opportunities -  I wanted to be involved in
everything! I decided to pursue my Music Education degree at Shenandoah
Conservatory in Winchester, VA, which led to classroom teaching and,
eventually, piano lessons.

I teach out of my home and welcome children ages 6 and up. The best moment of my teaching day is when 
everything clicks for a student and they realize that yes, they can do this, and yes, they are wonderful! 
Not every child is the same, we all learn differently, and I go to great effort to make sure I present 
information in the way that is best for the student. We may sit at the piano for the entire lesson, we may 
move around the room, and I have been known to use the stairs to explain the difference between high and 
low. I incorporate games, digital resources, and recordings to make music accessible to everyone who walks 
in my studio door.
