Do you teach lessons online?
I have recently expanded my studio to include teaching lessons online using either Zoom or FaceTime. For the immediate future I will be teaching this way exclusively. This method has its own positives and negatives but it is an excellent way to continue connecting with my students while there is so much uncertainty. After this current crisis passes, I plan to continue to offer lessons this way as an option for days when there is inclement weather, transportation issues, or sickness.
Do you teach adults?
While I would be happy to share music with everyone, my studio is more geared toward children than adults.
Do you travel teach? Will you drive to my house?
I do not travel to my students since I have an enormous amount of music, games, and materials available in my studio. When I see that a particular way of introducing a subject isn't working, I can easily pull out something else to better reach the student. Until I start driving an RV and can bring
everything with me I am not set up to teach away from my studio.
Do you teach siblings?
Of course! I even have an extra digital piano in my front room for one child to practice on while another child is in their lesson.
How long should my child practice?
Practice is incredibly important. I would like every student to practice at least 5 days a week, 15-30 minutes for the younger children and 30 minutes to one hour for older, more advanced students. I encourage students to find a regular time every day to practice so that it becomes part of their routine. Is your child an early bird? Encourage them to practice before school. Do they need a break from school in the afternoons? Have them practice, it will help stimulate another part of their brain.
Do you take PayPal, ApplePay or Vimeo?
I accept cash or checks and I highly encourage my families to look into their bank's bill pay or auto payment abilities.
How often are lessons?
Lessons are for 30 minutes one time per week. As students progress I may consider moving them to a 45 minute lesson.
Do I need to have a piano to start lessons?
Short answer - no. Longer answer - yes. Let me explain....
Your child will need to have an instrument on which to practice as soon as possible. It is absolutely fine if your child has an electric keyboard (full sized keys, not a tiny keyboard) to start with. Depending on their progress, however, they will eventually need a fully weighted 88 key instrument with pedals. When that time comes I am happy to help find what best fits your family, whether that is a digital piano or the traditional accoustic piano.
